Paediatric Feeds
Children have different nutritional needs to adults, and our paediatric range is designed specifically to meet their needs for calories, protein, vitamins and minerals. Abbott Nutrition provides a range of feeds to meet your child’s nutritional needs both in the hospital and at home.
NUTRITIONAL DRINKS are taken by children who cannot take in all of the calories they need each day from food alone. However, it is important to remember that nutritional drinks are usually used to add to a child's daily dietary intake, not replace it. Since everyone’s nutritional needs are different, your healthcare professional will be able to advise you on which nutritional drink is right for your child.
Our paediatric products include:
- PaediaSure, milkshake style*
- PaediaSure Plus, higher calorie milkshake style*
- PaediaSure Fibre, milkshake style with fibre and fructo-oligosaccharides (a prebiotic)*
- PaediaSure Plus Fibre, higher calorie milkshake style with fibre and fructo-oligosaccharides (a prebiotic)*
- PaediaSure Plus juce, a juice style drink*
* suitable for children weighing 8-30kg
Tip
Most of our nutritional drinks are best served chilled and can also be used in recipes or frozen into cubes and lollipops. Chocolate flavour also tastes great when warmed and served as a hot drink (do not allow the drink to boil as this may affect some of the ingredients).
In addition to our paediatric range, Similac High Energy is a medical food for infants specifically designed to promote the growth and development of infants and children up to 8kg in weight (or 18 months of age) with, or at risk of, faltering growth (failure to thrive). This is a prescribable product and your child’s healthcare professional will be able to advise if this feed is suitable for their needs.
TUBE FEEDS are types of liquid nutrition used by children who cannot take in enough daily calories and nutrients from food and/or nutritional drinks. For example, your child may have swallowing difficulties, or a medical condition that may require them to have some extra help with nutrition. Tube feeding involves
the delivery of a nutritionally complete liquid feed directly into the stomach or small bowel via a narrow tube. Tube feeding is usually started in hospital. Once your child leaves hospital, you will be trained on how to manage your child’s feed at home. Since everyone’s nutritional needs are different, your healthcare professional will be able to advise you on which tube feed product is right for your child.
